The space
This family compound sits on the scenic shore of Moosehead Lake in Maine overlooking Mt. Kineo. Whether you are looking to relax amongst the tall pines or looking for a bit more adventure such as fishing, hunting, snowmobiling, ATV, hiking, biking, watching moose or boating and ice fishing - Moosehead has it all!
Our compound consists of a main lodge and 3 cabins which were originally built for use as a boys camp in the early 1900's. They have been tastefully updated maintaining the charm of yesterday but include todays modern amenities such as starlink high speed internet. The landscaping and furnishings are magazine worthy. The cabins are far from rustic.
The property is 'off the grid' so it is important to note that the use of the solar and septic should be limited with large groups. This is the perfect setting for a family reunion or just a get together with friends.
The cabins are not rented separately so if you were to rent the entire compound would be included in your reservation. There is a main camp with a master bedroom and bedroom with a bunk bed, full kitchen and dining room. A second camp with two twin beds and a small kitchen and bath and two other sleeping cabins. One with bunk beds and the other with a queen bed.
There is also a new shower house.
Many people ask me about hiking. There are so many mountains in the Moosehead Lake region, it is difficult to highlight them all. Among the most popular hikes of the Rockwood area is Mount Kineo. A trip to Mt. Kineo is a must. When reaching the top a hiker can take in the astounding panoramic views of the distant ranges. There is a pebble beach at the base which offers the perfect setting for a picnic lunch.
For those of you looking to rent a boat there is a marina within 5 miles away where you can rent several types of boats. Please visit http://www.moosehead-marina.com to learn more about boat rentals. A boat can be rented and brought right up to our dock for your stay.
Although you feel you are away from it all the town of Greenville Maine is just 20 miles away where you will find a quaint general store, restaurants, tackle shops, boat rental marinas, ice cream shops and an old fashioned candy store and gift shop. There is also a convenience store and restaurant with great pizza and burgers etc.. just a couple miles away.
Ask us about coordinating a private guide for hunting and fishing or about boat rentals. There is a canoe and kayaks on site.
This is not a place to have a wild party. If you are looking for a mellow retreat this is perfect. There is an age limit on renters for this reason. This camp is a place for our family to get away as well and we are looking for responsible parties who will respect the property and neighbors..
Guest access
All the cabins, dock (pier), canoe
Additional notes
No more than 9. Septic system will not allow for more guests.
Guest interaction
Owner is always available
Neighborhood overview
Moosehead is a very special place. The Lake is the perfect location for people looking for a unique outdoor experience. The region is often referred to as 'God's Country' by locals.
Moosehead is largest lake east of the Mississippi contained in one state. A home to nature lovers looking for a secluded getaway. There a so many activities to keep you busy year round ranging from fishing, hunting, camping, white water rafting, canoeing, kayaking, hiking, mountain biking, exploring, skiing, snowmobiling, golfing, sailing, photography, viewing wildlife or just taking in the natural beauty of the region.
This camp is the perfect place for our two boys to spend their summer. During the day we fish, swim, take drives to go moose hunting or the camps are also within 20 miles of the quaint town of Greenville, Maine which has many restaurants, shops and a local hospital. The boys love the vintage candy store and getting ice-cream.
At night we love to cook so we bbq outside, sit on the dock and fish or read a good book by the fire.
Getting around
No public transit. 20 miles to nearest town but there is a restaurant, gas and convenience store with in 2 miles.
